14 September:

During this one day Masterclass Kevin will introduce participants to the basics of making and applying glazes. This ceramics course offers the chance for beginners and intermediate students to make and apply their own glazes onto pre-made bisque ware and test tiles. All work will be fired after the class and be available to pick up at a later date.

Course Content and Structure:

Introduction to the basic principles of making coloured glazes, application and surface decoration.

Glaze mixing and application demonstration – pouring, dipping, and spraying techniques. Preparing paper resists for glazing.

Making session: Mixing and developing your own glaze experimenting with a variety of techniques.

21 September:

During this Masterclass Kevin will introduce participants to the basics of printing onto ceramics using a variety of techniques including powder, paper, stencil, screen and mono-printing. Participants will go on to explore using decals and transfers on pre-existing ceramics. Exploring themes and techniques present in his work participants will use a combination of found and gathered imagery printed onto ceramic decals to up-cycle ceramic objects brought by participants.

Course Content and Structure:

Introduction to techniques for printing onto ceramics and the preparation involved.

Demonstration of techniques for printing onto ceramics including powder, paper, stencil, screen and mono-printing as well as using pre-made decals.

Making session: working at your own space experimenting and exploring a variety of techniques.

14 December:

During this Masterclass Kevin will introduces participants to the basics of working with porcelain and paper- clay.

Using a variety of techniques and processes, participants will go on to explore the fine translucent qualities of porcelain as well as the flexibility and added strength of paper-clay, producing a series of functional vessels, jewelry and sculptural forms.

Participants will be shown how to prepare their own clay before creating their pieces. All work will be fired after the class and be available to pick up at a later date. This ceramics course is suitable for beginners and those with some ceramic experience.

Course Content and Structure:

Introduction to porcelain and paper clay as well as the preparation and making considerations involved.

Demonstration: Working with various tools, textures using porcelain paper-clay making vessels/jewelry as well as sculptural forms.

Making session: Making and experimenting with the material as well as different tools, textures and exploring a variety of techniques.

Your Tutor:
Kevin Andrew Morris graduated with BA (Hons) in Ceramic Design in 2010 from The Glasgow School of Art. Since then he has gone on to exhibit his work nationally and internationally as well as work with a range of artists, institutions and work on various public projects. Currently based in Glasgow Morris is often referred to as a ‘Nomadic Ceramicist’ working across Scotland.
