This course is suitable for absolute beginners or those that have some experience with clay and would like to learn more. The initial classes will be learning how to roll slabs out evenly and use templates and press molds to create 3-dimensional functional objects, as well as learning how to roll out coils and make pinch pots and more sculptural and organic pieces. You will also explore different ways of creating texture and pattern in clay and learn how to glaze your final pieces. This course is fun and offers participants the opportunity to come with their own ideas and be guided in how to make pieces in clay and grow in confidence, skill and ability.
Week 1 Learn how to roll out slabs and begin making pinch pots and press
Week 2 Use slabs rolled out previous week to make a geometric piece using
Week 3 Facilitate participants in making pieces of their own design.
Week 4 Learn how to Glaze.
Week 5 Continue making pieces on reflection of work to date/glazed pieces.
Week 6 Facilitate participants in making pieces of their own design.
Week 7 Facilitate participants in making pieces of their own design.
Week 8 Glaze final pieces.
Siobhan Morton graduated from GSA in 2001 with a BA Hons in Design – Ceramics. After graduating, she worked for the Highland Council as an exhibitions assistant, curating and touring exhibitions around the Highland Council Galleries from Kingussie up to Thurso and Caithness. Returning to Glasgow in 2005 she took a studio in Fireworks in Garnethill. In addition to making her work she has taught children and adult pottery classes as well as community art workshops and studied her teaching qualification at Glasgow University in Secondary Education. She continues to teach and produce her own work in watercolour, printmaking and ceramics. She has exhibited and sold work at the Glasgow and London Art Fairs and as a graduate in the GSA shop.
