Observing Colour

RICHARD GASTON, LAUREN DAY & JENNIFER KENT

STUDIO PAVILION

14 October – 21 November 2021

Studio Pavilion is delighted to be hosting an exhibition by photographer Richard Gaston, colourist Lauren Day and textile designer Jennifer Kent in our gallery space, resulting from a year-long collaboration. Three distinct approaches to observing colour combine to explore the translation of colour information from photography to textile.

Working from a selection of Richard’s landscape prints, Lauren has created a series of colour palettes from single threads, expressing the sensitivity and mood of a particular section of each image. The completed collection of wraps informed the next stage of the design process.

Using the physical thread wraps as a starting point, Jennifer edited, extracted and translated the palettes to design and produce a limited-edition collection of woven blankets that encapsulate the essence of Richard’s work, reflect the nuance of the colour information from Lauren’s palettes, and resolve the complex technical constraints when designing for weave.

Open Thursday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm
