GIUSEPPE MISTRETTA

Residency Period November 2017 – February 2018

Giuseppe Mistretta’s artistic practice expresses his interest in alternative ways of living and experiencing the world. This pursuit evolves by working and learning with others or being aware of other perspectives when working alone. He is interested in what he doesn’t know and what he finds hard to imagine.

Mistretta spent his residency researching and developing a new audio performance using a eurorack modular synthesiser to create improvised sonic compositions. The work emerged through research into post humanism, cybernetics, speculative fiction, the history of electronic dance music and experimental electronic music.

Mistretta’s residency culminated in HALA new audio performance presented in the courtyard of the Studio Pavilion in which synthesis was utilised to facilitate the cross fertilisation of ideas, senses and sounds in a non-linguistic, non-physical form.
